Frequently Asked Questions

  • When are the meetings?
    We meet after school on the first Monday of every month in the LGI (unless stated otherwise). Make sure to join our remind for any updates regarding meeting date/location changes!
  • What if I miss a meeting?
    Please fill out the meeting excuse form the day before the meeting if it is a planned absence. If you are sick, fill it the day of. You will receive a strike if you do not let us know! Contact our officers for any questions/concerns!
  • Can I join even though I'm a freshman?
    Yes! Although you will be an unofficial member, you can still join to earn hours. It will look great on college applications and may boost your chances of getting officer positions in MAO!
  • How much is the membership fee?
    Membership fee is $35 for the 23-24 school year.
  • What are the hour requirements?
    10 hours per semester (3 of which must come from tutoring) for a total of 20 hours for the entire year. No double dipping (unless stated otherwise)!
  • What if I don't meet the hour requirements?
    During the first semester, you will be handed a probation hour onto the next semester and will have to make up the hours. If you fail to earn your hours by the end of the year, you will either not receive a cord (seniors) or have to reapply for membership (all other grade levels). If you have any hour discrepancies or concerns please contact our secretaries.
  • What are probation hours?
    A probation hour is a penalty for members when they don't complete club requirements. ​ This can include (but are not subjected to): failure to show up at events that you are signed up for deleting your sign up the day before an event without notifying officers misbehaving at socials, competitions, volunteer events failure to donate items that you have signed up for not completing your hour requirements ​ These probation hours can made up with additional volunteer hours.
  • Can we earn outside hours?
    You are allowed to use 3 hours of outside hours for MAO each semester. We do not, however, transfer hours to other clubs.
  • Do members need to reapply/resubmit an application each year?
    As long as hour requirements were fulfilled the previous year, returning members do not need to reapply or submit an applications because they are already official members of Mu Alpha Theta. However, returning members do need to pay the member's fee each year they are a member of MAO.
